Does anyone do on-site printing? - 07-14-2008, 07:19 PM

I am an nightlife and event photographer and am trying to move into providing and selling prints on location at some of the events I photograph.

Does anyone else here do "on location" prints and sales? If so, I would like some recommendations for equipment and any advice you can provide.

I figure I would post here before going out and purchasing equipment that might not work out for me. You know... picking your brains before wasting money I don't have on "trial and errors".

Any response is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

CD burner? To burn CDs of a single image and sell to the people.

This will be an MMA event where people will be able to line up with a celeb and take a picture. I need to be able to sell them the image within minutes on photo paper.

I am already thinking of getting the canon wireless file transfer for my 40D so my assistant can have the images on the laptop within seconds of taking the image. With Lightroom monitoring a directory, it will automatically populate in the catalog and the "person" in the image can easily pick their image for printing and purchase.

I suppose I am looking for more advice on printers for this. something to handle the work load. Print quality prints, and not require as much ink reloading after a few prints.

I was actually looking into onsite portraits as well. This is an interesting topic but not to highjack but what recommended backdrop products do u guys recommend? Such as lightning equipment, softboxes, 2 light setup? etc. As far as printing, I did some research and most people say if you are going to do onsite printing make it simple by only providing one size such as a 5x7 to osave money on paper and ink. Ink jets are ok but may fade over time. Thermal printers are ideal but expensive.
