Hey gang, our paper has a staff photographer position open. I know there are plenty of talented photojournalists on this board, so I thought I would tap into this great resource. Here's the info:


The Facts, an 18,000-circulation daily in Southeast Texas and the reigning Newspaper of the Year in Texas for papers of our size, is seeking a staff photographer who takes strong photos and takes the "journalist" part of photojournalist seriously. The right candidate's portfolio will show a breadth of original work, including portraits, breaking news, feature and sports action photos. This is a great learning opportunity for a photojournalist just starting out, or for a shooter at a smaller paper to expand their portfolios. We're fully digital and provide the equipment; weekend work is required.

We offer competitive pay and all the usual perks, plus a fun, family-friendly work environment. Situated on the Gulf Coast, there are plenty of recreational opportunities here, and we are close enough to Houston to enjoy everything a big city has to offer.

oh man I would love that job....actually applied for it about 5 years ago...before I was digital. Too bad I don't have any kind of photojournalistic portfolio...and the weekend work would hurt my weddings....

but damn...to be able to do this for a living would be awesome. :) You have the greatest job Dan. ;) (I'm assuming of course....that you still have the job....) ;)

Damn, I would really love that, but I don't think Clute is anywhere near Dallas. Of course, I've never really LOVED Dallas.

When does the position close to applicants? Any particular date or will it stay open until the right candidate is found?

Clute is where I as well as many others live or close by to Clute. The paper covers pretty much the entire Southern Brazoria County (Lake Jackson, Angleton, Clute, Richwood, Freeport, Jones Creek, Surfside, Oyster Creek, Holiday Lakes, Alvin, Pearland, even as far SouthWest as Bay City). So many of the forum members down here are covered by The Facts. So yeah sorry Leslie it is only about 4-5 hours away from Dallas :)

Ha! The reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated! Nope, I'm not going anywhere. (are you kidding? I just bought a house!) Our other photographer, Val, is moving on, which leaves me with a position open.

And you are right, Wilson, I do have the best job in the world. Now if I could just find the best Paycheck in the world!

I don't know when the position will close. Probably when we find the right person to fill the job! Which will hopefully be soon!
