Photographer's Journey - 08-17-2011, 04:12 PM

I would be interested to know from the photographers on here especially the more seasoned ones a few things about the journey that led you to where you are today. They don't have to be long detailed answers but I'd love to hear your stories...

1. What got you interested in photography?

2. How did you get started in photography?

3. How long have you been in the business?

4. Do you own your own photography business? If so is it your full time job? If so how long did it take you to become full time?

5. Do you have your own studio? If so how long before you knew it was time to get a studio?

I'll start!

1. What got you interested in photography?

I think I inherited the love for photography from my mom because she was forever taking our photo's although she was far from professional it seems like everyday she would want us to pose for photo's. I picked this up without even realizing it...in high school I would always take my 35mm camera to school and take photos of all my friends. Then when I got married I started using my wife as a model with sheets as backdrops coming up with crazy ideas...but even then I had no idea I wanted to become a photographer I just liked to take the photos for fun the whole process of being creative. I've always been an artist painting and drawing and the photo's was just another way to express myself creatively. I did that for about 10 yrs before it finally dawned on me that HEY I why am I not a photographer??? Lol

2. How did you get started in photography?

I got started very slowly...about as slow as you can go. I did a LOT of research like everyday for years, heck I'm still doing research! I got my first DSLR a few years ago and started practicing on EVERYBODY I could get my hands on doing a lot of trail and error. Shortly after I bought my first cheap ebay strobes and began practicing with those...more trail and error. Which I think may be an on going thing because whenever I come across a new technique I still use trail and error.

3. How long have you been in the business?

I have had my DBA for about 2 yrs but I still have a full time job and do photography as my side business. But I have been practicing photography for the past 13 yrs.

4. Do you own your own photography business? If so is it your full time job? If so how long did it take you to become full time?

I do own my own business but it is a part time business for now...I'd love to hear the full timers on this part.

5. Do you have your own studio? If so how long before you knew it was time to get a studio?

I have a home studio but I'd be interested to hear those who have an actual studio at a different location then their home.

Ok your turn! :)
