Clear Lake artist turns child photography dark, alternative | Mom Houston | a Chron.com blog

A Houston area photographer garnered an article and slide show in today's paper with very edgy shots of little kids, with tattoos, holding a severed heart, raccoon eyes, etc. OK, she got some press, and yes, there is a market for edgy photos, but for kids??? Your thoughts.

The most shocking part is she only charges $150 a session!

I love edgy, but I'm not a big fan of skulls, cut out hearts, and raccoon eyes. LOL

I like it, maybe not for me personally, but she's creating a very unique style for a specific type of client. She's not trying to appeal to everyone, I think she'll be more successful than most because she'll stand out.

The way i see it, its blackmail material for when they get older.

I can see all sorts of cool things about it, but you're right. the pricing is VERY low.

For kid photography that is pretty par. I bet he doesn't include any prints, disc or anything for that price.

I was just going to make that point. She might be selling an 11x14 print for $500, and she might have a $1,000 minimum order. The session fee might not apply to anything. Not everyone has the same pricing structure.

I think it's awesome. Definitely not for everyone, but I have a feeling Tim Burton would be all over this (does he have kids?)!

Ya, well that wouldn't be for a while. But if she was like 4 or 5 and could really have fun with it, I think it would be a blast.

That's actually pretty high around here for just a session fee which is nothing but the time for taking the photos. No prints or anything included in that.

I'm surprised by that, I would of thought it would of been higher in that area. But from the photogs ends, the session fee covers time to shoot, upload, process, commute, etc. These look like they are done on location.
They probably have a minimum purchase on prints then. When ever I see low session fee they will have like a $XXX minimum purchase amount.

Either way, I think it's a pretty sweet deal that I would consider if I had a little girl.
