Sign for Event Booth - 01-20-2006, 10:42 PM

What do you think of this for display at my vendor booth? I'm referring to the beagle. At first I was just going to simply enlarge a photo all by itself.... then I got the idea to dress it up and turn it into a sign. I could have it printed 16x24 on mat board at Mpix and put it on an easel. It might actually be too nice for use outdoors. I'm worried about what might happen if it's windy.

The sign I currently have (used once at a small event) is actually 4 -8 1/2x11 sheets matched up together and glued on foam board. It may sound terrible but I needed something that cost virtually nothing and could be assembled quickly. It was decent -- it's the other image here. I want something better now.

So.... what do you think? All C/C accepted!

Great shots! I won't comment about about what to get though bc I have no experience in that. But, these pics are so great I am almost tempted to have you take my dogs' photos!

I love the image, but I may be partial because I had a pet beagle as a kid

My thoughts on the first one......
1- having a large sign is a great idea, and should pay for itself immediately in increased traffic.
2- I like Beagles, but to have ALL the shots of a Beagle makes me as a consumer think "maybe they just specialize in Beagles".
3- YOu are the expert, but don't pet owners want to see full figure shots of their pets as well as the cutesy close ups ??
4- I LOVE the slogan of the second grouping. I think the whole combination of shots works better than your new one.

I would continue with your original group of photos of different dogs idea (maybe lose the tiger, butterfly, etc. unless you have some tiger, butterfly clients) and just upgrade your presentation materials and quality.

Just my thoughts.

OH.... I don't know why that didn't occur to me. It's just that I've only had one paid gig so far! You're right, I need at least to mix it up (with the dogs only).

The sign was developed for a craft fair where I was trying to appeal to a larger audience that might be interested in other photos. My future events willl be dog things, so I can appeal straight to the dog audience. I think I will make a new poster collage with several photos, on the mat board. I have newer photos I can update with and I'll include some full body. I also wanted to show that my photos will look good enlarged so maybe I will have an 11x14 or so framed on the table. Most people who walked by did give the sign a good look-over, so it drew attention. Some people smiled at it even if they didn't stop. I imagine with a dog crowd it will be even better.

Thanks for the advice!

I think the collage idea just screams out that you are a dog and pet photographer, and come and talk to me about photographing your dog.
People will take a very quick scan of the display, and if it doesn't tell them the whole story in 2 seconds or less, they will pass you on by.
If the pictures are arranged like you have them, it kind of makes the viewer stop and turn their head little to see them better. Exactly what you want them to do. STOP AND LOOK.
From there, it is your job to sell your self. They can see by your pictures that you are good, but they need to feel comfortable with you as a person. Always sell yourself first, and then the product will sell itself........

Thanks Tom. I will work on a new collage this weekend. Darn it, that just takes a long time, though!

Another question.... should I title it DashingDogsPhotography.com, so people might remember the web site, or should I just write Dashing Dogs Photography and that looks a little nicer, and who cares if they can remember a web site because it's the same as the name anyway? I am listed on google, and they should be picking up a business card with the web site on it anyway.

Oh shoot, I need to hurry and see if Overnightprints will redo my business cards for my event. They came out icky. My email on Thursday got no reply yet.

Very nice...much better than the first!

If you have a website for your business, include it on the sign!

Thanks Jesus! I only left out the URL because it's redundant. There isn't room to add it without removing the tagline, so I will just remove the tagline. I don't really care if it's there or not.

Tom, thanks for your feedback, but it's too late. I ordered the sign a little while ago from Mpix! I had mixed feelings about swapping it.
