I've only been in business for months. Last year I shot two youth football teams for 8 weekends. Would it be in bad taste to send my customers who made purchases an email reminding them to sign up their children or teams for a session?

Absolutely not in bad taste. Its called MARKETING and if you want to stay in business you will need to do it. The nice thing about this kind of mail is that they already know you. Switch places with them...would you rather have a reminder from a photog who has already shot your child's team once or a stranger hitting you up for pictures.

You already have an "in" with them and you should take advantage of that customer relationship. Besides, "reminders" are always much more subtle than the day of the shoot and a stranger walking up and asking for $40 to get a "team photo", "10 wallets", and a trading card".

couldn't have stated it better myself. Proper marketing will make or break your business.

Advertising is not usually intended for a single sale.. it is intended to keep you in your customers' minds... and you can't do that unless you send out periodic "notices" either in email or via postcard. Must be done. It is expected, and it is hard to consider yourself to be a legitimate businessman without it.

(That said, I REALLY need to get working on mine.)

I just read my question, and OMG coud that have been written any more poorly!

Oh well, it was late in the evening, and I'm sticking with that excuse.
