You may have seen my original foray into having a logo designed for me here: Initial reaction to this logo
The poll results actually had a slight lead for "Keep it" but in the end I had some problems with it. I got back with the designer and this is what we came up with. It's simplified from the original but I think I like it. More visible.. no weird crossings of letters that could make you read it as "Bad Crook" etc.. :)
Please vote and let me know what you think:

i like it much, much better than the first one. my advice to you is to have about 10 or so idea's, just do black on white and white on black. choose which one looks best. Then mess with color schemes. Of course if you already did those steps, then great.

I'd have your designer make a lighter version so it doesn't get lost on dark photos.

still think a drop shadow of a contrasting color/tone would help it separate from the background. I typically use a light grey or dark grey depending on the background/logo colors. very slight offset, 50-80% opacity. An outline also works the same but I usually prefer a drop shadow as it is usually softer and less intrusive since I can vary the opacity and sharpness of the shadow.

| I would show my designer photo #3 and ask them how they would solve this problem.
I would also ask your designer how this logo would work in a non-linear format. For example, say you had a free opportunity to display your logo on a square banner, would you simply float it in the middle with white space above and below? Some logos have an alternative "stacked" version for such applications.

^ what he said with rearrangement.
I'd also have them give you a straight black/white version/s... not every application calls for color. In some cases, even with your photos, the color version may be distracting or conflict with the color scheme of the photo it's on. I would suggest having a strictly white, and black, versions to drop on them. Less is more, even with color.
and as far as drop shadows are concerned... be careful when doing this to your company brand, this can sometimes come off cheesy looking unless it's applied in the right places. or, it may not show up that well and actually make your logo look fuzzy in small or tiny applications.

my first thought was "Hey, my cousin's husband is Brad Cook!"
; )
It's lovely but it's not memorable. I would add some sort of shape or graphic to it, just for the sake of recognition. In order to brand and repeat that brand, you need some sort of outstanding component... especially in photography, where half the people in the biz have a century gothic text logo.
You can still keep it simple, you just need to add a shape of some kind IMO. Some little design element that makes it more than "oh look, text".
My logo isn't fantastic in square format, but I can move the elements around when I'm limited to a square.

Ask how it would look grayscale. I like the simplistic layout for your logo and I think that it fits your photographs well. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
