Album company..who do you prefer? - 02-02-2006, 11:18 AM

I just signed up with Asuka books....I'm having a hard time deciding on how I want my album workflow to go. I'm also having a hard time deciding who I can afford to use because most of these websites DON"T include complete price lists

I like my prints from my current lab...i like being able to see my prints before they reach the client. I have thought of going with mounted albums ...sending my prints to a lab for mounting and binding ...

BUT I also know that coffeebook style albums like those that asuka offers are a hot item today. I realize this means that I get the final product in the mail and the last handle i'll have on my image is the digital file.

So.......any advice?

I found a 4x6 proof book company, but now I'm stuck on the design for the big enchilada album...

I have to second Asuka books. I'm right down the street from you in San Marcos. If you'd like to stop by my studio...I'd be happy to show it to you. I also can make you a copy of the latestest pricing I got at the ImagingUSA show. :)

Asuka is a very nice and affordable product. GraphiStudio, Leather Craftsmen, and Zook offer very similar (to each other - different from Asuka) upper scale products. LaCie is incredible. I've purchased from Asuka, Graphi, and Leather Craftsmen.

I got another Azuka question, which style is best?
Book bound or Stitch bound
hard cover or soft cover?????
I really do like their prices and will probably order two show books so should I just order 1 each or does one style sell better than the other?

Has anyone every tried My Publisher? They're quite a bit cheaper and the books I've seen are pretty good quality. Also, the turnaround is days instead of weeks. Any opinions?

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

What your customer wants is the right answer.

From a quality perspective, the hard cover EX is their top of the line.

Have a friend who did...I saw the results. Was not impressed. Cheap paper, print quality just wasn't there.
