My question is how can a semi-pro photographer get a pass into a concert at Cynthia Woods Pavilliion to shoot and provide pics for media coverage of the live concert?

Thanks,

By having the media outlet your working for request a photo pass of the promoter of the show. The promoter will in turn make the request to the artist tour publicist.

Not that I have had any luck doing it this way but I wanted to shoot Jimmy Buffet and I went to his website found out who his manager was and contacted them directly. I was turned down because I was not doing it for a story and a real media company. I tried the approach of telling them I was a freelance photographer. I am going to try a few other ways to see if that works. I will post if I am successful, I hope others will do the same.

Well, I know that everyone doesn't have this 'hook-up', but one of my personal friends owns a local (SA) urban entertainment magazine.

I usually email the promoter or go through the 'sponsor/advertising' link for the show (I have gotten a quicker response usually through the 'advertising' link...) After telling them I'm a freelance photographer for X magazine, they let set me up with a couple of media passes.

It also helps that I have done other shows for my friend, Destiny's Child being the biggest. Some shows have asked what other shows you have requested access to (and that have been approved)-- when I say Destiny's Child, JazzAlive, etc I'm usually a shoe-in.

I shoot for The Pavilion. You are going to want to contact April Weller at Live Nation. The Pavilion simply hosts the entertainment, Live Nation is the company putting it on.

You would also have to contact Cindy DuBois at The Pavilion for Media/Photo credentials to shoot at The Pavilion. This is usually best done through your publication editior.
