Finding the Business Name? - 06-05-2006, 11:06 PM

So when you decided to support your shutterbug habit how long did it take you to find the right name. What are some things you had to have in the name and other things you considered?

For me, I had to find a name that
  1. supported my business goals (in my case, something that implied imaging but not pigeon-holed to exclusively photography)
  2. something I could live with for a good long time
  3. a URL that hasn't been used before or forced me into some twenty-character string just to get something unique...

In my case, I kind of took a risk with the strange spelling of "wurx", but it hasn't effected me yet. If anything, if you know the odd-spelling, you'll never forget the URL.

The name idea isn't an option for multiple reasons one being it's a joint venture. So we want something nice that targets everyone and no one, something classy that wont put off the blue collar worker. Something easy to spell but creative. As you can see we are having a tough time....

Since you are in Houston, make sure the name has not been registered yet as a DBA in Harris County:

That being said, since you are trying to pick a catchy, non-ostentatious name, also try and remember the name has to flow nicely and fit on a business card and weburl without confusion.

I've got a couple picked out if I ever decide to do the photo gig full time.
