Marketing your photos - 06-06-2006, 03:44 PM

Last weekend I worked a golf tournament for my Church and took a lot of photos of everything.

I took some pretty good ones of just the course alone. I was thinking of going back to the golf course and trying to sell some for thier marketing material.

Has anyone else ever done anything like this before? If so, how did you charge for it?

Thanks

the rate charged would definitely depend on the purpose of the shots. The few times I've been fortunate enough to do something like that and it worked out, it was mainly allowing them to use the prints in their advertising in exchange for print credit and referrals.

last course i shot was for 1200... took 3 hours in the morning and 3 in the afternoon then off to the lab. custom prints and then I mounted them for framing.

I just shot a course in AZ and it's was just the back 9. 400 for the shoot and prints. It's my brothers course so i through in the prints and retouching. Basically he is paying for retouching. The last super he had killed off a bunch of fairways and greens. That's what happens when your super is wacked out on drugs all the time.

I would sell for the print and get them mounted and framed or at least matted. 125 an 8x10 mounted and matted. 75 mounted.

I don't know that I really have an answer for your specific dilemma, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to recommend a book that might help with similar endeavors in the future. It is the 2006 Photographers Market (ISBN: 1582973954) by Donna Poehner. ALL sorts of contact information and advice in there.
