Asuka Book- question about page swaps - 06-27-2006, 11:04 AM

I'm in the middle of creating an Asuka book and I've thought about swapping a couple of the pages. My question is probably stupid, but I thought I"d ask anyhow just in case there is something I don't know.

What i do is open the template, edit..save as PSD. At the end I then resave it over the original blank template.jpg file provided by asuka.

I would like to resave one of the psd files as two other sides (from sides 1213 to 1415), but don't know if there is something embedded in the orig. jpg file that I would be screwing up if I did that. Is that okay to do?

I also want to 'move" the pages down by two sides to stick a series of pics in the middle of the book which would require renaming & resaving these psd's. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, but I would like to be sure.

Thanks!

you can just open up an new template page, lets say 1415, flatten the PSD of the pages you want to swap - 1213 - copy the layer, then paste it in to the 1415 ,then resave them in the correct order under the folder you have your book saved too...The templates don't care if you they were opend from the same zip file, only the filename number.

and vice versa to move 1415 to 1213.....

boy that sounded contrived....

hahah..so was my question!

i didnt think it mattered...afterall, its the filename I save it under that matters most right?
I just didn't know if Asuka had some secret embedded tag in the template that I would be screwing with and ultimately ruin the layout.

Thanks!

yeah file name matters the color space does too but as long as you are working with in the same binding it doesnt mattter.

actually I design in 10x10 for everything, and the client wants smaller books or change binding then I just flatten the layers and paste them into the 8x8 templates or respective bindings...

gotcha..

everything is in the same color space and of course in the same binding...just decided to plug in more pics than originally.

Thanks for the tips on the smaller books. I didn't think about resizing flattened psd files and plugging them into smaller versions. I thought I'd have to redo the whole thing. That's good to know because i know the mom is looking to buy a copy , but she was also thinking of buying ala carte prints for scrapbooks. Either way, I get paid ! :)

Yeah work smarter not harder. Less time designing means more time for other jobs and more money.

Just remember that when resizing, that you constrain the proportions or if using the transform tool to hold down the shift key while dragging.

does holding Shift keep it from distorting?

yup. Shift allows you to resize things, without changing the aspect ratio.

One thing to keep in mind though is that asukabook 'square' layouts aren't exactly square.

I design most books for 10x10 but find that I have to crop when getting them ready for uploading.
