Filing as DBA in Texas - 07-01-2006, 09:28 PM

Some time ago, there was a thread that had great instructions on filing a DBA in Texas, along with some other recommended procedures. If anyone can provide a link to it, a big thank you.

Was just asked to put together a website w/ graphics and stuff for an annual conference by my church's music pastor. All pro bono, but it could lead to other stuff, so I'd like to be prepared.

Thanx!

From what I understand, it depends on if you are going to create a sole proprietorship or a corporation. The sole proprietorship can be filed at the county courthouse in your county. If it is going to be a corp. of some sort it has to be done with the secretary of state and also with your county.

Check with your attorney or possibly CPA for the exact requirement.

It's all done by county and you can usually find what you need by going to Google and doing a search for "DBA in <county name>" (replace your county name in there!)

Here's a good page on the Texas Secretary of States web site on how to that plus other business options.
