Yikes!-Contracts! - 07-05-2006, 04:43 PM

OK folks, do I need some help! I have been contacted by a furniture manufacturer to take photographs of their furniture with a local reseller sitting on it.

Here is where I need some help. What "contracts" should I use? Do I need a property release, model release? The project is TOMORROW!

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,
Harry

a few questions:
by property release do you mean something that will protect you in case the furniture gets damaged? if so then your liability insurance should take care of that. If you don't have it, then get a release of liability from them. what are they using the images for? will you get a print credit? Can you use the images in your personal gallery. will they have exclusive rights to the images preventing you from future sales? who gets the originals?

Nathan,

All good questions, some I can not answer just yet.. The property release I was thinking about was to give me permission to photograph their furniture. They want the image to use in a trade publication and I will keep the original images I take. I know there are more questions I should be asking, but this happened so fast.

You are shooting their property for hire by them ? No property release required. A model release will keep you squeaky clean, although you should be OK without one unless you try to sell one of the images to a competitor for example. (one copy of release to your client, and one for your files).

Captain Tom,

Thanks for the advice. Yes, it is their property and I am being hired by the furniture manufacturer. I thought about the model release because the gentleman that will be sitting on the furniture owns the retail outlet and does not work for the manufacturer.

Thanks for the responses. The session went well and my nerves were at least semi-calm.
