Good article. Good advice too, but some points are much easier said than done...

1. Attain a level of shooting that puts you on a level with other working pros

- Yeah, that's good advice. If I can do that, I'll be writing my own articles.

I really enjoyed that article... at times I found it a little discouraging, but then he brought the mood right back up. I think it's a good reality check. If you're not ready to face some of those challenges such as self promotion and running a small business... you may have to keep it a hobby. Thanks for the link! I love Ken! I also read Why Photography is not a Profession hahah :)

We do shoot professionally - this is our bread and butter. But it took a lot of hard work and a lot of freebies to attain a level of shooting that we were willing to actually start charging for. Find a pro photographer whom you really enjoy seeing work from and figure out what they did to create the images that you like - lighting, posing, PS, make-up, everything that it took. Practice it on your own through TFP shoots and pics of the family. Whatever it takes for you to learn and master that technique. As soon as you master it, pick another pro photographer and do the same with their work. Even shooting as pros today, we still do that to continue learning new techniques.
