Graduation Job - 07-13-2006, 09:40 PM

Ok, so heres the deal. I've been approached by a family friend who is having a daughter graduate next year, 2007 from high school. They [parents] decided to rent a hall to hold a party for her and 15 other graduating seniors.

I was asked to basically document the event. I'll be there for about 4-6 hrs to take candids, group photos, etc.. just get a bunch of stuff of everyone. She wants to know what I would charge for something like that.

I'll have a flat fee for the time then parents can buy prints seperately..

So my question is, what should I charge for showing up for 4-6 hrs, taking photos, editing.. Im thinking i'll probably shoot about 1000-1200 photos maybe more.. Thanks

Adam

that sounds pretty much like a short wedding coverage. What's your time worth, along with equipment depreciation and other expenses?

I would think that your hourly rate will be dependent upon your level of experience and expertise. I've shot similar types of things in the past (group size = 50 or so). These folks literally only wanted snapshots so that they wouldn't have to miss a large part of the event by being camped out behind a camera. Translated - there was very little post processing, I gave them a CD, and they were totally happy. You may want to find out what there expectations are with regards to the final product.

Just a couple of random thoughts.

Since you're looking for a number - somewhere around $200-$300 is probably fair if no PP work is required. If you're planning on PP - I'd double that amount.

The real answer - no one except yourself and your client would know what works. Don't expect to sell a whole lot of event prints so factor that in.

My photography fee would be $195. for the first hour and $95. for each additional hour, plus travel, plus expenses, plus post processing and or prints and I am considered cheap. But since they are friends of the family they probably expect a deal so double the price that you want and then offer it to them for half price because they are family friends.
