That posting is full of code words that say to me "We aren't going to pay you" or "Aren't going to pay you much" or "You'll be happy to work here just for the creds."

You can't eat creds.

Looks interesting. I sent them an email to get a little bit more information. I'll let you guys know what they say. I probably don't have time to commit to something like this, but hopefully someone on here might find it helpful...

Looks like little to no pay after all your expenses and they are not even consistant in their ad when they say per photo compensation then say the opposite right after that. Looks like they want a general gofer photographer which means that you will be driving all over the metroplex covering whatever is their whim and if they don't give you travel consideration then that $500 a month can disapear real quick and you find yourself working for under $10 an hour.

I am very familiar with Envy Magazine...

I've shot a bunch of shows and stuff right along side one of their photogs here in houston...

For those that are looking to get into concerts and stuff this is a great opportunity since I know they get into a lot of them here in houston.

they also shoot a lot of parties and such at clubs, special events etc..

its a great opportunity if you ask me... of course you cant live off of their payment but its definitely something to consider doing along with your normal gigs etc.

How long has the mag been around? Monthly?
So I guess they are legit and expanding out of the Houston market?
May look into this then.
I wonder why the website is just a parked domain?

Thanks for the info Abel...

They still haven't responded, but I have been looking for an opportunity to shoot more concerts and events around Dallas. Good to know they're legit.

Party, clubs, social life shots pay about $50. Cover and main article are $200. Unless that's changed in the past 2 months or so. Of course like the ad says, use your own equipment.

There My Space says that they have been around for 2 years in Houston, they also have a Dallas My Space page up.

I guess they decided to go with the envy mag domain since a relatively new club in Dallas picked up the envy dallas domain already.
May drop them a line still looking into it. Since this town does get a bit crazy at times I would assume that they will have several stringers on call to shoot for them to cover all the scene.

If anyone is seriously looking at the possibilty of trying this out, and I'm not saying its a bad thing, make sure and see that you keep the copyright to your images, it may help make up for the low pay at some point in the future. If you combine the tear sheets along with keeping the rights it may not be a bad gig for someone wanting to break into the biz. But put the rights in writing.

Good Luck

Don't I know it...I drive a Tahoe and a typical wedding in Dallas (driving from Arlington) can cost me $40 in gas when all said and done (rehearsal/ceremony/reception). UGH!

Thinking about trading the badboy in, but they want to take me to the cleaners on depreciation. Soooo...probably keeping it..
