Look at restructuring our price list and wondered if others charged by the side.

I use Asuka books and my understanding is that you have to order a certain number of pages : 20,40,60,80 . Is that correct?

This makes my life a whole lot easier but I just wanted clarification.

Yes, Asuka has preset pages in 20 side increment. Other vendors may have different increments. For example, Cornerstone needs them in increments of 4 sides.

I base my pricing with the wedding shoot package. Part of the package determines the book size. Obviously if I can sell them the larger book up front it's better. Less re-designs, haggling of which pictures they "really" like. etc. But if they elect to grow their book size, I typically look for $50 per side as a starting point. Figure what you charge for a typical 8x10 and now add in some computer time and a couple of other pictures (depending on your layout of course) and it's easy to see that $50 a side is a reasonable starting point. Price will vary some with markets, but you get the idea. I tell them that charge during consultation and try to move them into a larger book by discounting and making the pricing more attractive because I get the money up front. My contract has me getting a one third deposit at booking and another third 30 days prior and paid in full two weeks prior to the event. Works well because then if they want to get a larger book they are only looking at the difference, not some huge cost...

Actually, I think in the Asuka EX bookbound, it starts going covering a wider spread.
Anyhoo, to answer your question, I basically just 3x cost, which covers my time. I do this in all the books I carry, be it Asuka or another company.
