There is no standard release. There are generic releases that might work for you but most need some modification depending on the type of work you do. There are some examples I use on my website (go to the Modeling link and look at the bottom of the page). Feel free to use them if they are helpful to you. One is for adults and the other is for minors.

Also, here is any example of the general purpose release I have on the back of my business cards. As you can see, it is very broad but concise. Feel free to adapt it to your requirements, if you like.

I'm getting errors on that file - Keeps saying "This file is too big for Word to handle"
It's only 19K, and I regularly open 10MB word docs, so I don't know what the issue is.

I got the impression that Brad was asking for something different than a model release. I took "photographer release" to mean something that a person could use to get prints from a lab without getting hassled about violating copyright. Maybe I misunderstood though.

If that is what he was looking for, check out the Modeling link on my website (davidsstudio.com) and look at the last link (Image License). That is what I give my models to allow them to use the images for their portfolios and other non-commercial uses.

Brad if your looking for a release that will let you client print there own prints all you need to do is give them a letter on your company letter head (if you don't have a letter head just make sometime up in word) is a simple statement like:

ABC PHOTOGRAPHY
123 ANYSTREET
ANYTOWN TX 77XXX
(000) 000-0000

I (name of the copyright holder) of (insert studio or business name) here by authorize (Client’s Name) to make Non commercial reproduction of the photographs taken on (insert date) for personal use. All other rights reserved. Please call (insert ph #) for question or concerns.

Sign your Name......

end///

It doesn’t have to be fancy but is has to be sign. The labs are only trying to keep themselves from being sued. Place the people tend to go like Wal Mart, and the drug stores are really watching out for us photg’s these days. :-) I had several clints use the letter above without any problems. Hope this helps.

I have a Copyright Transfer Form that I use for that purpose. PM me if you would like a copy of it.

Copyright Transfer Form? Hmmm ... do you give your copyrights away? That would be the only time I would use a form like that and I never five my copyrights away.

Good catch. I guess that's why you're an attorney.

My bad, as that's not the form I meant to refer to. Thanks for pointing that out.

I don't "give" copyrights away, but sometimes it is appropriate to sell them.

Yes, Jeff... that's exactly what I was looking for. I have plenty of model releases for different purposes... but with places out there (THANK GOD) starting to restrict consumers from re-printing professional portraits without authorization, I need this for a couple of clients. (My actor clients are typically purchasing unlimited reproduction rights, but limited usage rights.)
