Talking My first cover! - 08-23-2006, 12:26 PM

OK, so it's relatively small time, but it's still a cover.

I recently finished the football game day program cover for Coppell High School. It's always fun doing stuff like this when you have dozens of people to keep happy, each with a different opinion. The final cover turned out nothing like what I started with, and I had other images I would have preferred, but what the heck.

I'm proud because I've never really attempted something like this before. I've done a lot of posters with some heavy graphic work, but this will get more eyes on it than anything I've done in the past. I traded it for a full page color ad in the program--those go for a pretty penny, so I think it was a fair deal.

Comments and criticisms are welcome, and appreciated. This is right on the edge of my area of expertise. The guy at the graphics shop liked it, but I wanted to see what my peers thought.

Congratulations! Looks great. Only thing I would like to see is less obstruction of the players by the logo in the middle. Don't know how you'd do that with space limitations. My .02

WOW! That looks great....I am very envious right now. The colors and text just flow. I am doing good to put text on my photos much less what you've done. I think there will be some happy campers out there!!!!

Very nice.......just a few suggestions....

Since you have the helmet in the background, how about taking the one out on the bottom of the page, lowering the text that has the name of the team down so the football team will show better. I think you need to show the team more.....

I would agree--that was one of the things I wanted to do differently. However, the politics of the booster club prevailed, as they wanted to cover up some of the jersey numbers of players that graduated last year. I didn't think it was such a big deal, since the helmets and uniforms are different this year, and everyone know's that's not this year's team.

Thanks. I would tend to agree with you (see my comments in the previous post--I'm kinda glad to get the validation of my opinion). They wanted the new helmet to be the focus of the cover, and to cover up some of the jersey numbers in the photo. I would have preferred to show the players to at least their knees. The customer is always right though, I suppose.

congrads, that is awesome - only thing - ok, two
Isn't the color of the helments red and then one on the ground isn't. If that is the case and the helmet is correct. It would be cool if you can have a reflection of the players in the helmet. only a suggestion.
I'm of course just excited to see someone get on the cover.

The helmet on the ground is a new helmet for this year. We have no photos of players in the new uniforms, as they were not ready in time. In fact, I hope they have them all ready by the first scrimmage this weekend!

Yes, that would be cool. Out of my league, but cool.

Hey - the boosters get what the boosters want. Great job. I would have made some of the same comments I saw earlier, but you had specific perameters to work with. I was always amazed at how slick the football programs looked at my son's high school (Highland Park). This is definitely on a par with the HP program (and between those 2 schools, this isn't any "little football job" - LOL). Football is a big time serious issue!!!
