yup...another slideshow question. Looking for music. - 09-27-2006, 01:24 PM

In the past I've given musical slideshow DVDs to my customers for use at their team banquets. The cost is very low. It also tends to stir up business for those parents who haven't had the chance or still unaware they can purchase action photography of their children. For these DVDs I've used music from todays popular artsits.

This year a little league football team wants me to create a slideshow DVD for their year end party in November. Again, I will give one DVD to the team. The team mom also wants me to have these available for sale. I know I CAN NOT continue using music from the same type of artists without paying royalties (which I assume can be VERY expensive).

Where do I find music I can use in my slideshow DVDs?

Sonny, this may not be the kind of music you want but I was able to get the composers permission to use his music via an email royalty free. There's probably others but I know for sure about this one. Royalty Free

I use Fresh Music for all my DVDs and I have been VERY happy with them. They are very reasonable as compared to other sites and they have a great selection.....

Well, if you are at all musically inclined and have a bit of time (I don't have either!), you can get Sony's Acid music software, buy some of their loops, and make your own. All royalty free!

A good place for royalty free music is www.musicforphotography.com. If you want to buy it, you can go here for a $30 discount for a short while.

You can get music on MySpace. There are a lot of unsigned artists that will let you use their music for whatever you want, all you have to do is ask and give them a credit/link.

Sonny, The songs from the show NFL films from the sixties and seventys would be perfect...IMO....... You may not like it, but go listen to them and see what you think. I guess that was a little before your time. The program was hosted by Steve Sabol, narrated by (I think his name was Tom Hedden). Anyone who remembers watching that show will remember that voice. What a voice........anyway search for "Autumn Thunder"...look for songs like "Round Up", "Up she Rises", "The Lineman" and "Waltz of the Goliaths"......."Round Up" is probably the most recognizable song people would remember.......... I can still remember growing up at the time and could not wait for that show to come on on Sunday mornings and watch it with my dad before the Cowboys come on at Noon time.

I had someone tell me something interesting recently. This guy created a DVD slideshow for a client, but he used music that the client provided. Since the client had already purchased the music (and therefore owned the "right" to use it) it was okay to use to give back to them on the DVD. He says he researched it and this is legit. Anyone else hear of something like this?

Yes, this is true. But... that means EVERY buyer would have to give music and have the slideshow made to that music.
