Would anyone here mind sharing the contents of their copyright release statement which includes : editing, printing, online sharing, copying, emailing images...etc.?
I'm not sure exactly how to word mine and was wondering if you broke down the types of use you'll allow a customer who purchased the negatives (ie. you can print them, but you can't edit them.) I guess I would like to have a few options just in case the situations come up, but not sure where to start!
here are some of the ones I"ve seen before :
Exclusive Use and Transfer of Ownership of Original Artwork
Under these terms, we do not retain the rights to use images produced for the client.
ALL rights & ownership are transferred. This option is rarely offered by other agencies.
Multiple Use and Transfer of Ownership of Original Artwork
Under these terms, we retain the right to use the images through the use of duplication of images,
but all other rights and ownership of selected artwork are transferred to the client.
Multiple Use Copyright Release for Print Publication
Under these terms, we retain the rights to use these images as well as ownership of original artwork,
but the client may use the selected images in print publication without paying for individual use.
This option is chosen by over 90% of our clients.
Single Specified Use Copyright Release for Print Publication
This is our most affordable option for print publication - client licensees the use
for one single specified publication, we retain all other rights.
Unlimited Time Copyright Release for Electronic Transmittal Use
Whether for Internet Use, Email programs, Power Point Presentations or similar electronic transmittal,
this release provides the client with the rights to use and reuse an image, for an unlimited period of time.
Single Specified Use for Electronic Transmittal
Also for Internet Use, Email programs, Power Point Presentations or similar electronic transmittal,
this release provides the client with the rights to use an image or set of images, for a Single Specified Use for one year.
Other Specified Uses
If an image is being used for billboards, product packaging, trade show booths, television or any other
"specialty" use that is not Print Publication or Internet Use, we use "Foto Quote" software . . .
recognized and respected by advertising agencies and publishers throughout the nation.

I'm also asking this because I have a client who handed me a Cd and what she thought was a copyright release form. I finally got to review them and found its simply the contract that says she will purchase the negatives. Not exactly a copyright release, ya know!
SO...i now need to tell her what she needs to get from the original photographer but i want to make sure that she asks for the right thing. She wants me to edit them andshe also wants to order them thru me so I can send them to the lab (she wants them to be printed on the same paper stock that I used for all her other albums).
This is a whole other question and I started another thread on it, but I think I'm gonna ask here and delete the other :)
Provided that she get the RIGHT release from the orig. photographer
would you:
1) edit the images and just give her a disk and let her print on her own
2) edit the images and print for her
I know this is a sticky subject and I want to go about this the right way.
Her contract states :
Federal Copyright Laws : XXXXXXXX owns negatives (unless purchased) and all original prints. XXXXXXX will retain the copyright of all work , and select prints may be used for advertising, display or purposes thought proper by XXXXXXXXX. Copying of portraits without negatives is hereby prohibited and protected under Fed. Copy. Laws and enforced to the fullext extend allowable.
Does this mean since they WERE purchased that the photographer has given up ALL rights, including the right to be the person who exclusively edits them?
