Lightbulb What to charge? Help! - 09-29-2006, 11:08 AM

The company I work for has asked me to do a shoot for our marketing department. The goal is to show a range of friendliness from very unfriendly to very friendly through facial expressions for a total of 7 final images. It would need to appeal to multiple industries. They are wanting me to find the model and shoot him/her in a solid color polo shirt with a name badge. Now with all that said any ideas on what I should charge for this? Also, do I provide the wardrobe or is that something I should make them provide? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If I provided the wardrobe I would be sure to mark up the costs of the items since it most likely would not be useable in another shoot.

In fact once you have the model chosen I would let the marketing dept supply the shirt that way they can't say they don't like the color, cut (yes polo shirts can have various cuts/designs), collar of the shirt.

I would bet with a good model you can knock this out within 2 hours of set up, you also need to find out a bit more about how they are going to use the pics? Employee training? Advertising? etc

Thanks for the response. In response to your question, the photos would eventually be used for brochures and training material.

You could charge for this either of two ways. You could tell them a flat fee or you could charge by the hour for the time that it takes you. I would probably be more inclined to charge the flat fee but you could go either way.

Most of the Houston/San Antonio promotional models charge $50/hr for something like you are asking. You will also likely want to have a make-up artist - what does your MUA charge? Figure that in too. Then, even if you charge the flat fee, you have to decide how much you value your time for - not just shooting time either. You also are going to have set-up and post processing time and you should charge for that too. To include the fees you pay for a model, the MUA, and yourself, I would suggest a minimum charge of $500 for your client. You could probably get more than that easily, but I wouldn't go any less IMHO. Don't be greedy about it but be fair.
