Inexpensive web hosting - 10-08-2006, 01:53 PM

Does anyone know of an inexpensive web hosting company?? I had an account with dream host for $9.99 domain and hosting for 1 year. The year is over they only want $9.95 a month now. But was wondering if there are any good deals out there....

If you have a domain name, have you considered Smugmug? You can custom build pages and do all sorts of CSS, java scripting and other tweaks with the Power User or Pro Accounts.

$10/month is a pretty good deal for hosting. I've used phpwebhosting.com for probably 8 years. Watch your bandwidth limits when signing up for a hosting account. Its very easy for somebody to hotlink one of your good images on myspace and before you know it you owe $100 this month for additional bandwidth that came from your account.

1and1.com offers some good deals on hosting.
For example 1&1 Home $3.74/mo: Includes 2 domains; 100 GB web space; 1,000 e-mail accounts; 1,000 GB monthly transfer volume; 1&1 WebMail

My friend and coworker owns Infuseweb. If anyone is looking to support a Texas owned web hosting company with good deals and local support, check it out.

nathan - i knew of two people who lost large amounts of data when godaddy had a server failure. they got zero support during the ourage, and when the server came back online and they realized they had lost data, they were basically told 'too bad so sad.' I also know of someone who lost his domain name temporarily (he was able to get it back by appealing to netsol) because godaddy let someone else buy it while he was renewing.
