How do you get a photo representative? - 10-19-2006, 11:10 AM

Where would I begin to start to look for a representative to give my portfolio to and see where that could take me? Are there agencies? I just heard someone talk about it, graphics designer, the other day saying he got some photos he used from a lady who represented like 6 photographers and ran around getting them work...some pretty high dollar. Just seeing if anyone here has one or knows anything about it.

Thanks
Clint

The general consensus is that you hire a rep when the burden of showing your portfolio around and negotiating contracts is so much that it's taking you away from shooting. If you are looking for a rep to help you break in...then you are setting yourself for disappointment.

My understanding is that Photographer reps can indeed help emrging photographers get noticed and sold. That's thier job, making sure the photographers they represent get sold and getting contracts for you.

A good rep will help you build a strong book and also help you make leave behinds. The rep holds nothing back they will tell you if you suck or not and if you have a chance. A really, really, really, really, good rep can take a sucky shooter and make them great just by how they put the book together.

but yes a rep will take a novice on board to rep for. They know who to talk to and how to get your book infront of people after that you are one your own.
