Digital Technicians? - 10-26-2006, 10:33 AM

Hi,

I just relocated to Houston from Chicago and am trying to understand the Houston marketplace. Is anyone offering services in Houston (or Texas) as a digital technician working with CaptureOne software, Canon DSLR and Hasselblad H1 fitted with Phase One backs?

Digital Technician - Defined - 10-26-2006, 12:49 PM

Hi All,

A digital technician is an assistant to the photographer whose job is to set up, manage and operate the digital capture equipment and cameras.

Typically, the photographer will be shooting with a Canon DSLR or Hasselblad H1/H2 with a Phase One (or Leaf, Hassy or other) medium format digital back. The cameras are tethered to a MAC G5 or PowerMac running Phase One CaptureOne software (or Leaf software). CaptureOne software is used to manage/edit the image files in RAW format.

The digital technician is responsible for setting up the cameras and computers and operating the Capture One software during the shoot, ensuring that images are being captured, are within the proper parameters for exposure, etc. and processing the RAW files to either TIFF of JPEG format for further retouching in Photoshop.

Oh, by the way. Digital technicians are getting paid $500 per day w/o equipment and up to $2,000 per day if you provide the equipment.

That's more of a commercial photography thing. A good place to start is to talk to the a corporate photographic project manager. They usually have a list of contacts a mile long of the individuals you're looking for.
