HELP! You Offer Package Deals??? - 10-27-2006, 01:40 PM

Okay, for weddings we'll put together custom packages at the contract signing, and then after that everything is a la carte. For portrait shoots everything is a la carte...

But, I have a family portrait client that is wanting thousands worth of prints and so she asked about a package. Ummm... we really don't do that kind of package deal normally, but it seems appropriate here. So, how do you structure your packages so that you don't undermine your sales? Should I design package options where the print prices are essentially unchanged but add-ons are tossed in? Buy x and get a mini album for only $y. Or, offer a flat % off at specific price points, x% off at $500, y% off at $750, etc? Or, do the Sears thing - one 8x10, two 5x7's eight wallets, all for only $xyz...

Suggestions? Quickly would also be good...

I would go with the % off after a certain price point. That way you aren't really changing your pricing structure, or creating new packages that you may have to keep up with in the future. (Also, maybe a certain % off for combining packages?)

% off does slash your sales if they would have ordered that much anyway. Assuming people purchase based on emotion, they will buy what they want. We've noticed a trend with people doing that and they order all the prints they want regardless of income level.

Nobody else does portrait packages? Newborn packages? Children, seniors? Nothing? I'm surprised.
