$2500 in Sales from a Family Portrait Session - HELP! - 10-30-2006, 02:17 PM

So, apparently I can get people to buy stuff. I have a family portrait session up to about $2,500 in print and frame sales.

Now, this is the part where I usually shoot myself in the head. (eg they would have gladly paid full price and I discount it or something silly like that)

I usually throw in little "favors" for people that spend that much. I had offered this client's friend (family A) a discount instead. (We offer friends and family a 50% off discount that isnt open to the public - that is what I gave family A - our kids play together) I think family A may have told her, but I'm not sure. I know family B knows that we did her friend a favor.

So I was trying to think of a nice "favor" to throw in that's about the same "WOW!" factor for family B. And I NEED this referral, so I don't want to botch it. But I need the sale, too. So chopping the price isnt really an option.

This client (family B) really likes Art Leathers Foto Fun Books. I thought about adding those for next to nothing. Or just sending her an extra one as a thank you.

Does anyone know of anything else that would be a good Christmas present, where the cost for us isn't as high? The fun books cost us about $50 each.

So I was looking for something that had the gesture, but not the cost.

Background: This family is moving to Australia after the holidays, so they are wanting to gift photos of their family and kids - which is why their order is so high.

Are there any super fab products/ photo ideas I can throw in on the cheap? She isnt interested in DVDs or anything like that. Wish she was...

Thanks for your help!!!! Meetings tonight...

True, but she is already willing to pay full price for Xmas cards. Its already in her order and she is willing to pay full price for it. (I have her order, we are meeting later to do her album/ fun book layout & to get her payment)

Thats what I mean by shooting myself in the head. I'm trying to let them buy what they MUST have, b/c they are willing to pay full price for it - gladly.

I was trying to add something she wanted, but wasnt ready to buy yet - or something that was just so cool she had to have it. Any more ideas???

Holly,

Is there one special photo that she likes? How about a nice Photo Tapestry of that? I throw them in with Bridals and Weddings all the time as a thank you and the WOW factor from that really is amazing.

Drop me a PM if interested and I will see if we can get you fixed up.

Good idea. Since it is the end of the year maybe a nice, large calendar of her favorite images? That doesn't really sound nice enough, but maybe as a start...plus she thinks about you all year!

Coby,

I couldn't get the link to work. Is this the kind of thing you are talking about? http://www.photolabstore.com/index.asp?p=11704

It does look very similar to the one you posted, Clayton, just in color (and with a different picture, of course).

OK I assume that she will have a couple favorite shots done up in larger prints so why not toss in an EXTRA print of say a couple shots that are even LARGER and the one special one framed up nice.

Larger prints may be a good idea...Im tossing around the idea of giving her the framed series she wanted...but I cant give her the series of BOTH kids.

These people have a 100% contemporary home (one perk from shooting on site - their house - is I get to see what they have, like, and prefer - and they are contemporary style all the way) I don't think they'll go for the tapestry, but thanks for the idea.

They wanted something "different" that comes with boasting rights. They are braggers - which is good for me - so I wanted it to be good!

I just thought that it would be something that wouldn't take any real extra time on your part and even a very large print could probably be picked up in the budget range that you were thinking of and a HUGE Print (based on the limits of your files) would just wow them.

You could make a nice big canvas print, maybe...
