You sure about that?

"Generally seeking, anyone who contracts with an infant or minor is doing so at their own peril. That means that the law gives to minors the ability to void, or exit the contract as they see fit. The most common justification for the rule is to protect minors from assuming obligations which they are not capable of understanding. It is obvious to see that this will lead to harsh results, so some general exceptions have been created."

l"Minors can enter into contracts, but can void them in most cases before they reach majority age."

Minors can go into business. And they can void contracts. This typically doesn't have a big impact, because anyone who avoids their contractual obligations doesn't stay in business for very long.

If you want to get around the voidability problem, a parent could start a business for a minor, and incorporate it. The business could then employ the minor, and the contracts would be with the business, and enforceable.

In Texas, they ask you what your estimated income is. If it's high enough, they require you to file more often than yearly.

Our local tax office was a huge help with tax questions. It seems like they are happy to see faces and not numbers once in a while. Anyway, get your assumed name certificate, then you MUST have a tax permit (this makes you legal, like you wanted), the tax office will tell you how often you will have to file (based on your projected sales). If the number is low enough you only file annually - like someone said. KEEP GOOD RECORDS if you have no accountant. Also, items you use in production are exempt from sales tax, so putting that number on file with Sams Club will help a little. The Small Biz Assoc. is also very helpful. They talked to me for 3 hours when we 1st opened.

After that, get you a phone number that is a biz line only. Then add your name to every website directory and get a 1-liner in the phone book (so people can find you).

More stuff about taxes - people that buy from you that are out of state are not charged tax. People in different areas of TX are charged THEIR tax rate (if you shoot there). The tax office will give you a tax sheet for the entire state when you register.

And if this sounds like too much - go to the small biz office. They are free and they have to help you. :o)

And Daniel - good luck man. You hit all sorts of hairness b/t the ages of 18 and 21. Its less of a nightmare after 25 yrs with all the contract cr@p, and other legal stuff that makes the mind spin...
