Are there any people here from the DFW area (Keller, Grapevine Wataga) that might like to start a co-op? A studio/gallery? I have serveral ideas and know that artists do this quite often. Some of the idea's are

1. Rent Studio time
2. Use studio for shoots
3. Use studio for classes (have guest speakers etc..)
4. Display photos for sale.

Benefits are reduced cost to members of the co-op that can't afford their own studio as well as an outlet for their work and a place to shoot.

Check the affiliate program I offer at my studio:

http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=28378

And its located right on 360, just north of I-30 and just south of 183.

I'm interested, but I'm kind of specific as to what I am looking for. I would really like something with brick walls, hardwood floors, and big windows, something more like a warehouse or loft style. They are renting out space in the Cotton Mill in McKinney which would be great or even something in downtown Dallas. So, if this sounds like something you might be interested in, then I would definitely consider it if we get enough people for it.

I am interested in such a deal, but I am staying in the Ft. Worth area. Studio 360 is just a tad far away, and I am also looking for someplace that has garage door access for bikes, exotic cars, etc. If the studio was close enough, I would consider a co-op.

Thanks for the offer Brad. Your place sounds great. I was hoping for something a little close though. If anyone has ever been to Grapevine down town there is a co-op for artists. Its in a high traffic area and the artists take turns working the shop and each has an area to display there art. I was thinking something like that but, for pictures as well as a studio that could be shared and booked for time/classes. I think the high traffic area would be good for exposure. Leslie/Tom... Dallas/Ft. Worth is a little further as well. I was hoping something in the Southlake, Grapevine, Keller, Trophy Club, Roanoake Area. If you guys wanted to do something a little closer lets talk. I am thinking we would need about 8-10 people to make it work. Thanks for the input.

I'm a little out of your area, but I have a complete studio in Denton. 30X40 camera room, several outdoor sets and it is seldom used in the evening or on week ends. Some of the TPF members have rented it.

Hey Don,

What part of Denton are you in? Its about 20 minutes from here. What were your ideas? Were you wanting to get some people together to help pay for rent and share it type thing or are you just offering it up for rent? What type or area is it in? High traffic? Is there a place for hanging photos? Thanks....

Paul

Hey Don, I might be interested in renting some time. Do you have pics of the facilities?

Paul, I would consider Grapevine if it had walkin traffic and a place for a gallery plus a neat shooting area. I really want something with some atmosphere, not just blank white walls. Grapevine is probably the furthest I would go. I am located in The Colony/Plano area, but I am very interested in a co-op. I'm not really interested in just renting occasional space.

The problem with "atmosphere" is that it costs big time money... something that I discovered while I was shopping for space. :)

Good luck.. would love to keep hearing about any details/ideas.

I agree, Brad, but not always. The Cotton Mill in McKinney is about $1000 for 1000 sq. ft. If you have 5 people in the coop, thats only $200 a month....not really a bad deal. Also, if you get a place thats not completely finished out, it might be cheaper than that. If we have 10 people in a coop, we could pay $200 a piece per month and get a place for around $2000 which should get us something quite nice, I would think. I don't think $200/month is a bad deal at all. Just some thoughts.

I'm looking for the same thing, and probably in the Coppell/Irving/Grapevine/Lewisville area, somewhere near Vista Ridge Mall would be the general area.

I'm up for some brainstorming if others are.

I live in The Colony/Plano/Lewisville area basically, kinda on the border of those, but technically the Colony, so those areas you mentioned would work for me, Tom, preferrably one that has walk in traffic and maybe in a neat town square or something. It wouldnt need the walk-in traffic if it was just a studio, but if we had a gallery, then that would be nice.

Leslie,

Ideally what I'm looking for would be studio space that was presentable enough to bring high dollar clients to. Walk in traffic is not a priority for me, as then it would need to be staffed at least most business hours. I'm not sure I would be able to cover that, as I would hopefully be out shooting elswhere much of the time.

Also, a location with traffic (like in a town square) significantly increases the cost/sq ft. Maybe a little rich for my blood at this time.
