Just a quick vent before Sonic - 12-05-2006, 07:14 PM

Long story short. I took the day off from "day job" to shoot a model in Rowlett and then to meet another model for dinner to discuss an upcoming shoot.

BOTH! NO SHOWS. (AND NO CALL)

So I call wife and said, lets take Matthew and go out to dinner as a family. Well.. They went over to in-laws and ate. Now I am off to Sonic to ponder how much shooting models sucks.

Thank you for wasting your valuable time reading this here msg.

BLAH!

You're welcome...

charge a pre-sitting fee and your no-show problems might go away. That's if you are charging, of course.

I know how you feel. Through Capt. Tom here, I had a studio lined up for a couple of hours and I had no less than 4 models who said they'd like to go. Plenty of models, plenty of ops for both of us, it was a great deal! Day of the shoot, time to leave and only one model shows up. Lucky for us, she's great but it sucks that you line someone up and they no show on you.

Geesh Andrew, you went to Sonic and didnt get me a root beer float? Pft! Well luckily, I have not had to deal with a no show yet, on anything....but I can certainly understand, no show is unexceptable to me, everyone has cells these days. Its about personal responsibility and seems not many folks under 20 have it these days.

This is why, allthough Im not profesional, I tell people Im going to charge them to take photos of their car. (and its actually been working)
I like to wake up at 5-6am so I can use the diffrent light changes. One time I scheduled a big group of similar cars, about 5-6 of them. Only one showed up, 3 wouldnt awnser their phones (possibly put on silent after my first call) The other two peoples phones promptly turned off on my 2nd call(went right to voice mail).
through out that week they called me back asking to do it, I pretty much told them to screw off, and if they want me to, they have to pay.
(and heather, at the time I was 20, hehehe)

Well my last month has pretty much sucked as far as photography. Biggest wedding deal yet...canceled (They are splitting up) and now this. BLAH!

At least we did get 1/3rd retainer for the wedding...but still. I am definitely in a foto funk over the last few weeks. Not real happy right now.

Go shoot something different than what you normally shoot. Shoot without an agenda. Take a couple of flashes out at night and shoot some cityscapes with your kids. Maybe some Christmas lighting stuff in the background... After going to Tim Babbin's workshop I've got the itch to do just that.

Thanks.. I probably need to just concentrate on family during the next month. Heck with these flakes.

I have been getting out recently and shooting some live music...I really enjoy that and seem to always get some killer shots. Inspiring...but much like modeling.. No $. LOL!

Thanks for your suggestion. Matter a fact.. I just went downstairs took one of those little ebay triggers and an AB800. Shot in complete darkness and came up with this. Nothing special.. But something different. Just to shoot after wasting an entire day.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to read and comment. Sincerely.
