For my wedding, the photographer did exactly that. In fact, it wasn't a dupe. She gave us the originals. She just priced the package accordingly.

My wedding photog sold us the negatives for $100. That was in addition to a high sum on a nice wedding package, in fact nearly the largest one. He made us wait almost a year for the negatives, but that was fine with me. When we purchased our package we knew the deal up front and that included enough photos for the time being.

I just sold reproduction rights/disc of images to someone too cheaply. It was a fee in addition to the sitting fee. It's the first time I've done this, and I wasn't sure how well it would turn out. I charged what I thought he might order in prints, but I was conservative. Next time I'll go higher, and downsize the images as well. At least this way I have one happy customer who will tell people about me, and if they call me, my prices will be higher and my process different, but they know I gave good quality. When he asked me about a CD, I was caught off-guard, and gave a a figure. I'm now re-thinking all my prices. I've had a few jobs and I'm feeling better about my work, and I don't want to be an under-cutter, so I can adjust.

This is a good thread....
