Wedding Video - 12-27-2006, 06:59 PM

I have been speaking about Wedding Photography with a woman recently who is getting married next year. She seems happy with my work, and has told me she would like to go with me for her Wedding Photographer.

The catch is that she wants the same person to do the Photography and to do the Wedding Video. I really don't have any experience with video, but she is willing to allow me to find a good videographer for her wedding.

What should I do in this situation? I really would like to shoot her wedding, but I don't want to provide a video person without knowing they will take good care of everything.

Does anyone know where to look for a videographer? Does anyone have any recommendations or know someone with experience?

when is her wedding? what is her video budget? when do you have to get back with her? If you have some time, you might want to go to the Bridal show next weekend as there are several videographers there that would be willing to work with you.

Thanks so much Nathan - I totally forgot about the Bridal Show. I do have some time to get back to her so I think I will have to swing by there to meet some folks.

Her wedding is May 5, 2007 and I think she would be comfortable spending around $1300 - maybe a bit more - for a good video.

that's a good price range and you should be able to walk through the show and see some video samples. It will also help you to "interview" them and see if you have a similar personality since you will be working together so as not to clash that night....

I would totally recommend that you DO arrange for both. If you are the one choosing the video person, they answer to you. Which really helps with nightmare videographer stories. I'm guessing she just wants basic video - not an artistic rendition of the day? If so, I would contact a few universities and ask the JMC department for their best video students. Throw them a chunk of change to do the whole thing, and you can tell them where to be and where not to be. The universities also have access to cutting edge equipment that compares to what some of the best video peeps carry. Usually senior students have some sort of experience and access to editing equipment too. I would think you could throw $200 at a JMC (journalism/ mass communication major) and they would jump at it. Just make sure you ask the prof for a reference and look at some of their past work. For basic coverage, it works great and is state of the art. Good luck!
