Stadium grounds photography - 01-08-2007, 05:25 PM

I'm plannin on hittin up The Big Easy this weekend to catch some tailgatin & trash talkin with the Saints Fan outside the Superdome. Does anyone know about photography restrictions in parking lots? I'd like to get there pretty early and photograph some tailgaters and compose commerative photos (one for the eagles, one for the saints) to sell on my website. Somethin they can hang up in the office and say "hey, look where I was." My plan is to recoup the $500 my ticket is gonna cost for this game.

I must be one helluva Eagles fan.

First if you are going commercial you better get signed releases and permission to shoot on the PRIVATE PARKING LOT!

my plan is to ask if the group or individual would like a photo, then hand them a business card with picture info and how they can order it. The grey area I see with this is that (from my understanding) not all parking lots around a stadium are owned or operated by the stadium. I don't realistically see the owner of a warehouse who opens his trucking parking lot up to cars having a problem with a photographer on his grounds on gameday. Hell, I'd be the least of worries with all the beer cleanup he's faced with. Even so with stadium-owned lots, I wouldn't think it would be very noticeable that a guy's walkin around askin people if they'd like their pic taken. Now inside the superdome is another problem i'm not gonna come close to trying to tackle.

I think you are on shaky legal ground.

That said, I would go right ahead with the project. As long as no one complains to security you will not likely be hassled by anyone. If someone complains you can claim ignorance of the law, and they would probably just ask you to stop.

Sometimes it's easier to get forgiveness than to get permission.

I've always thought about getting a t-shirt that says something like "Would you like me to photograph you?" on the front and back.

when I go out I usually have a t-shirt on with my web address. It works wonders. It stops at least some of the people from disrupting me to ask for a business card. I've got calls from people who say they saw me from the sideline and would like to discuss future business.
