TPF Photo Booth Idea

Hey, I have a great Idea! If one of these shows has open booth space for rent( Fort Worth Main Street Arts Fest, etc) , why don't we open a TPF booth, offering prints from all who would contribute. We could designate a percentage to go to TPF administrative costs, and the remainder given to the photographer(s) who provided each print. Sound like fun?

It could also provide an outlet for some of us who are NOT professionals to get some of our work recognized and start building a reputation.

You could limit this to DFW area photogs, but with the ease of sending pics electronically, it would not be an issue to include any of our members. With this being a group effort, we could also set up a rotation to man the booth, so no worries about any one or two people having to have a whole weekend off to man the booth.

This is something we could all do all over the state whenever there is an appropriate opportunity. Let's show Texas who we are!!! We're the best photographers in the state, in the best state in the Nation, and we are PROUD OF IT!!!

I'm in. I'll think about the idea and do some research. As long as we can be OK on legal grounds, I don't see why this wouldn't be a great opportunity.

Last year booth was $75 and you need to provide a tent or rent one for $100.

I don't think it will be a prob t get a tent... I can use my buying power at Lowe's (employee discount, inside access to clearance buys) to get a good tent.

If it is the dallas area I would be interested. I have 3 photos (I know not that many) that I would be interest in putting up for sale. I also would work a few hours at the booth.

The idea could be used at ANY venue ANYWHERE in the state, as long as there are TPF members to man the booth, and those willing to offer prints for sale. It could become a regular thing, especially for art/craft shows, even smaller local events at shopping malls or local parks.

I contacted the director of the Fort Worth Main Street Arts Fest, and received this reply:

"Thank you for your note, but no, the only sales allowed at this festival are by our juried artists. We open the jury application process for next year on July 15, 2007.

i thought some of you interested in signing up next year might like to know. I also sent back a reply asking if he could provide info on events in Ft Worth where a booth would be possible.

I would be interested as well. We would need to develop a price structure for different size photos and also determine how much of the proceeds goes to TPF ... some one might want to contact Abel about this one before we go too much further. Otherwise it could be a small group thing outside of TPF still with TPF members.

A lot of the better art "sales" shows are juried-ie Cottonwood, Artfest, Main Street and many others so your idea won't work there but there are many other lower tier shows all over the state but one of the problems with selling photos to people are that they like to talk to the photographer about the picture so if the person isn't local then it may be hard for them to make any sales and even more so if there is no way for them to be at the show for part of the time.

Good idea but you need to work on it a bit more.

One idea is for some one to make it a business and sell the photos on consignment through the web and/or a booth at an art show or flea market
