Question Water Mark? - 01-18-2007, 12:20 AM

Some of the following questions I have about watermarks:

For the water mark is it better to use a) my name, b) my signature, or c) my logo?

My name is in the watermark, so that might work to combine them both...any suggestions?.

Also, when do you add your water mark? Do you ad it on all of your prints, or just for online stuff?

In my case I am printing out photos from a family portrait setting. Should I put my water mark on their print?

O.k...thanks for all of the suggestions.

Take care and take heart,

~KJ

I would say, if your name is in your logo, go with that. Or just your logo if you do business under an assumed name. So long as it ties an image back to you for word-of-mouth advertising purposes, it's doing its job. Save the signatures for signed limited print editions.

I only put my logo on my portfolio images, and then really just to establish a style. I do not put anything on prints for my customers, and for online images, I use a line of copyright text so as to enforce my rights.

As far as a logo on something like family portraits, you can go either way. So long as your customers don't object, never hurts to have it on there. Some customers can be particular about such things, though, so be sure they are on the same page as you. Once you establish logo'd prints as a matter-of-fact, you can safely put them on all your prints by default, and only remove it under special, customer request.
