HELP! Need Stock Photo Pricing INFO

Was contacted by PHOTOGRAPHERS DIRECT that an English energy related company was interested in 3 of my offshore images. I've never sold photos via any stock agency before and not sure what price to quote to the company. I have to negotiate with the company directly. Here is all the info I have to base a selling price on.

One thing that I would do is check some of the other Photographers Direct jobs and see how much they are offering for similar images. Don't worry about quoting a price in Pounds unless you have been asked to do so.

Is this a one-time use deal? If so, I would probably charge between $100 and $200 per image. If they want to use it again, beyond the initial print, then a new contract would need to be in place. Also, remember to request at least two copies of the brochure for your files.

By the way, I'm in no way an expert in these things, but I have had a number of photos used in commercial publications...and I am pulling from that (limited) experience. If someone else gives you a different price, I'd defer to them. LOl. :o)

how big will the images be.. 1/4 page 3/4, half whole cover.

Of course this is for one run... your not selling your rights to the image the rights to use the image in the one publication.

I would recommend looking into purchasing fotoquote, especially if you think this will be more than a one time occurrence. It is very reasonably priced and you will more than pay for it with this sale. Plus it will help you not underprice yourself and will give you a reference and reference point. It's surprising how much companies can be willing to pay; for example, I recently sold a very non-unique, anyone-could-have-gotten-it photo (also on photographers direct) for use in a textbook, less than 1/4 page: $375. If you are unsure of fotoquote for now and would like me to provide a basis starting point PM with the details. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies everyone. Houstonrunner... will check into fotoquote if I make a sell. I went with adirty1's http://photographersindex.com/stockprice.htm suggestion and their quotes based on the info I was given ran from a low of $275 to a high of $575. Will let everyone know when and how they responded. Thanks again.

I just googled "Imaging USA", guess i missed some interesting event. :) but i'll be heading south for birdies soon that's for sure.
