Not to start anything political, but you might want to ask them how they feel about same-sex couples and Hindu weddings before you make a firm decision. Maybe you can get a straight answer out of them.

They instituted a policy that they will not make books for same sex weddings or Hindu weddings (citing something about how Hindu men couldn't touch the books or some-such).

They were asked to clarify the policy as is was a bit confusing, and they back pedaled and never responded publicly.

So if you shoot same-sex weddings or Hindu weddings, or think it may ever come up in the future, you may want to ask them to clarify their policy before making a decision.

If you do, please let me know what they say.

That's NOT a true statement. The owner of the company simply put in place a policy to shield employees who object to that. Right or wrong, he did. He also stated that if you have a same sex wedding book, to contact him and HE will build the book himself.

I have not heard anything about the Hindu weddings.

Are you a customer of theirs? Have you experienced this? Talked with them about it? If not, then don't post things without the complete story.

Jesus,
Is that exactly what he told you? If so, you seem to have gotten the clarification that a lot of other photographers did NOT get. The owner never responded to a request for clarification of the policy on another message board. He's a member of said message board, and he responded in the thread saying he would be back to explain the reason for the policy after things settled down (or something similar - I can check the statement if you like), and then never returned to clarify the policy even though there were many requests for him to do so. Lots of other members of the forum stated their displeasure in what at the time seemed like a blanket, bigoted policy. But he never came back to explain, and he never said that he would build those books himself.

Fast forward to early this week: a friend of mine on the same message board reports that the owner SCREAMED at her over the phone about a comment she made in the previous thread. All she had said is that she was offended. She recounted the phone conversation, and that's when the Hindu comment came to light. I know this photographer pretty well, and she would have no reason to say such things if they didn't actually happen.

I have an account with them. I've seen the 'policy' printed on their order forms. I personally have not contacted them to try to clarify it, but know several photographers that have, and they all say they got the run-around. I guess you were lucky to be told exactly what the ambiguously stated policy actually meant.

That is what he cleared up in another forum I'm a member of and he is also.

Pretty much, I love the books. If I had a same sex couple and I had a problem with getting the book done - which I don't think I would - I'd simply provide them with a similar alternative or a free upgrade.

My Indian couples tend to go for other books (Graphi).

What do you want to know - aside from pricing?

The books are printed on archival quality Epson inkjet paper (not an Epson person, but I'm sure one can tell you exactly what paper). It is a very matte finish. They are really nice. The cover is fully printed with whatever you design. The customer service is great and turnaround is fantastic. I can upload a book on Monday night and it's at my doorstep the following Thursday or Friday.

What do I like about them most? They ARE DIFFERENT - and they restrict the number of photographers who offer them in an area. This means you are not fighting with the other 5,000 who got the free GraphiStudio studio sample book.
