Newbie just sold photo - now what ? - 03-01-2007, 01:18 PM

OK folks, have never hidden the fact that on the technical side of the camera my learning curve is straight up. That includes photoshop and post production (see I am learning the lingo already). Sold my first photo to a publisher. I can handle the contract stuff (I think, I will post back if I need more help) as I have read things on the forum and taken a few courses........ Pricing is $200 for a very simple photo so I am not giving the work away. I have learned a few things on TPF about what to ask for in the contract. But if you want to throw in some info here that is more than welcome.

My MAIN request is to get help in getting the photo to the client.

Here is the request for photo:

"....we need a hi-res file for production 11x17 @300 DPI along with caption and credit info....." ........ ".......can you post the image to an ftp site? "

I shoot RAW with basic jpg. Can anyone help out with what to do next ?

I don't want to disgrass the profession so I am turning to you guys to help me here...... In the meantime I will continue to search the site and other online resources.

Thanks sooooooooooo much.

1) You don't know how to ftp? or 2)you don't have an ftp server to put it on?

Filezilla is a great free ftp client.

Your webspace should allow ftp-ing.

Hope it helps. Congrats on your first sale!

Congratulation on your first sale. When you get the check... make a color copy of it to keep with a copy of the picture. You'll be glad you did years later.

Oh! Tradition is that you buy everyone a round of drinks!!

At the risk of being nosey, what was the picture to be used for and what rights did you sell them?
