Need help on modeling session - 03-07-2007, 11:46 AM

I have a minor that wanted to take a modeling portrait session. We kind of agree on the session price and the thing that she will get with the package.
However, the big questions that I have are:
1. What is the modeling release form (full and partial)? Is this typical release form, can you tell what the wording suppose to be?
2. How much should I charge for 8x10 reprint cost that is appropriate?

Thank you been learning ton of stuff from you guys and still learning.

Erwin

Treat it the same way you would an adult session as far as costs go... and when it comes to the release.. the adult parent or guardian MUST sign it... if the model is over 12, you might have them sign it, too... its not legally binding, but if they are serious about modeling into the future it becomes a learning experience for them... that they need to know that photographers need releases and need to know the business side of it....

Ditto to brad - the parent/ guardian needs to sign the release for the child. We have that worked into our contract similar to Kathi's. And keep the parent there during the shoot. Don't leave yourself alone with a minor. Some parents are weird and will ask to leave, so explain ahead of time that they need to stay.

As for print prices - those are all over the place. Model packages usually have different rates than portrait packages - different intended use and all...and they usually need a pile of prints.

Absolutely!! If a parent is not willing to stay while you are working with their child, then politely explain to them that it is a matter of ethics and legality. If they are too busy to stay with you at that time, explain that you will have to reschedule their session for a better time. There may not be any specific laws against being by yourself with a minor (yet) but CYA... If the parent is there, nothing can be said about you later. And that goes for both male and female photogs these days... When I shoot, my husband is there with me - he is my "Lighting Technician" when they ask - and I make sure the parents stay too. That way, both sides of the equation have equal representation if anything should ever be said. Nothing ever has been said about us, nor do I give them any reason to say anything, but again CYA.
