Question Need CPA in Houston with Experience in photography business - 03-09-2007, 03:39 AM

I have had my taxes done the past couple of years by a CPA that has a background in small businesses, but not specially photography. I would like to switch to someone that does. Any referrals out there? I prefer someone in the Houston area.

I woudl think that if the CPA specializes in small businesses he would be fine doing a photographers' taxes. It is pretty straightforward. Also, utilizing the same CPA year after year, if he is good, will help him become familiar with your business and photography and you shouldn't have any worries. My CPA is 500 miles from me...as I have been using him for the past 20 years and he knows my finances and business and the issues surrounding them.

That's nice & all, but forget the CPA I have used in the past, it is not an option. It's a long story. I want someone local. I would like to get a general idea of who people out there use.

If you have copies of your past tax returns as a model of what the appropriate deductions are, etc., you could try to do your own taxes with tax software like turbo-tax or taxcut. The costs for the software are tax deductible. If you don't like the result you get, you can alway sit down with a CPA and have a knowledgeable discussion about what makes you feel uncomfortable. This is probably better than just dropping off your records and picking up the results.

Just my pre-tax $0.02 worth which after taxes is equal to $0.01.
