What should I charge for this? - 03-14-2007, 06:35 AM

Recieved this email:

"I have 2 artists that I need to do a photo shoot for, I need pics with whit backdrop and others, and some that are just street. I have an independent record label in Phoenix, AZ and I only need about 20 to 30 digital pics if even that of each artist. Could you please give me a price estimate. "

Assuming his "artists" are in this area...because I'm sure as heck not flying to Phoenix...how much should I charge for something like this?

I'm totally just starting out and these shots would help me build my portfolio...

It really won't matter, as you are not likely to get paid, anyway. Early in my career, I fell for something like this. They will have you send the files, and bill them. They will have the work, you will never see a dime.

It doesn't always work this way, but that's the way to bet.

Thats good advice...I'm kind of hesitant because of the whole Phoenix thing but how about if I demand a 50% deposit? or even full payment on arival at the shoot?

I would require full payment in advance, by credit card, or wait till a check clears, otherwise tell them to find another. If they won't trust you, why should you trust them? That will tell you if they are legit.
