I think someone once told me around .44 a mile.. or maybe that's what you could deduct on your taxes...

.485 is the new Tax rate

My dayjob company does a lot of assignments where we have to drive out. What we charge for mileage depends on the customer/assignment.
Most often if it's within our Metro Area (or 20 miles from HQ location) we don't charge a mileage fee (but we always charge a time fee).
If we do charge mileage, we charge 85 cents - $1 a mile. Don't charge the base tax rate as you'll be paying taxes on that rate, and thus lose money.

Also realize that you do take time to get to the location and back to the office.

On my rates I have a no charge if it is a certain distance from my base but after that I would look at over $1 a mile each way unless the shoot is very big and then maybe a discount off of that rate. So a two hour shoot in say Waco would be at least a $200 mileage charge (100 miles each way) while if it was a 2 day shoot then I maybe would charge under $.60 a mile.

With gasoline prices so high now you really should charge on most shoots if you have to travel more than 15 miles. Ever hear of a plumber or electrician not charging a TRIP Charge? (heck a while back my Dad had an electrician out and their offices were less than 2 miles away and he had to pay a $20 trip charge like you could bring your house wiring to them!)

$1 a mile seems fair. I think I'll do that.

I have my travel charge listed as such:

Travel: $5 per mile for each additional mile outside a 10-mile radius of John’s Euless location.

That probably sounds outrageous to some, but it covers the fuel and mileage. Since DFW is so large, I might expand the radius.
