Marketing an image

This is a discussion on Marketing an image within the Business Talk forums, part of the Business Discussion category; I suppose that if I wanted to try to market this image, the shirt could be a problem. Right?...

Could is the relative term. Hollister for sure has a trade mark on the name and design.

Right, which is why I thought that it could be a problem. Just needed verification. I might contact them to see what they have to say. Of course I already have an idea on that as well.

I think that's why you see brand names with odd alterations. The Disney Channel had a show where they kept calling scrunchies, hair scrunchers. It took me a min to figure out what they were talking about and then the copyright thing clicked.

You could always make one of the L an I. That would be easy. Not sure if that actually flies. I have an image of a bride in front of the J Crew window in NYC - Not sure what to do with that either.

I think you're right, Holly. I've contacted Hollister so we'll see what they have to say.

Alot of it in TV movies is done so as not to provide free advertising for the products, not so much copyright/trademark use.
Usually (and stress USUALLY) it's ok to have a trademark item in an image as long as the trademark is not the focus/centerpoint of the image.

Check out http://photoattorney.com/ , she wrote an article on it in the last 6 months or so.
