Product Pricing question - 04-01-2007, 05:58 PM

Hi Folks -

Trying to get a ballpark figure for what the going rate for a product similar to the following - A DVD/CD slide show for commercial business that would involve multiple (6-10) onsite photo shoots (most short drop-in kind of visits - each likely not to exceeding 1 hour), assembled into custom presentation. (Also note that the location is very close so travel expenses are not a consideration)
Though I have no specifics yet - but if I had to guess, the final product would comprise of approx 50-100 images plus any additional customized graphic material intermixed.
There would be no expectation of any follow-up print sales of these images - though it could lead to more business down the road.

I know that folks don't like to discuss pricing much in particular - I was just hoping for some input towards ballpark figures...

Thanks!
- Mike

My thinking.

6 one hour shoots. $600
6 hrs post $600
Hiring a graphics person $200
So, your cost is $1400
minimum 50% markup (100% would be standard )

Charge $2100 -$2800

Tom -

Thanks! That's more than I was originally thinking - but my infamous habit is to under-price myself. Thanks for the reality check!

Tom's estimate is more than fair. Way more than fair I think.

Don't ever EVER undercharge for this reason. A good way Leslie Burns De'Aqua puts it is to think "I'll do this one regular price and give them a discount on 'the business down the road'".

It sure helps to ask you guys. I have a similar question: What would be fair for a corporate shoot of 4-8 people for web page useage? This will be my first one and I don't want to undercharge, which is what I have a tendency to do also.
Thanks!
Sharon
