This seems like a retarded question, but I have "Business and Legal Forms" by Tad Crawford; when you have you client sign one of the forms, are you required to also provide your client a copy of the form, and if so, do you just have more than one form and have your client sign multiple copies of the same form or can you have it carbon copied? I am looking to make the signing of the contract a smooth process.

I recently had a client cancel on my because she was uncomfortable with having to sign a contract.

Any suggestions or advice on what you do with your own clients is much appreciated. Thanks!

There is no reason for the client to sign both copies of the form but I strongly recommend you provide them with a copy. Keep the sign copy for your records. Alternately, offer to send them a copy of the signed contract. I can scan a document and convert it to PDF pretty quickly. I then store the documents with the images on my hard drive.

Any client that refuses to sign a contract is a problem waiting to happen. That is unless the contract is friggin weird.
In my fulltime job (licensed private investigator), we are required by law to offer each client a contract. They don't have to take it though. I won't do business though with a new client that won't sign a contract - it protects me, my business, and the client. I do not require a contract from many of my repeat clients though (mostly attorneys).

If a client signs a contract, they are ALWAYS allowed to get a copy (that's actually a Federal regulation that the FTC will fine you for).
