WWYD - Client ordering prints... - 05-09-2007, 10:06 AM

So I shot these bridals (http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=47725) a few weeks ago. Bride was great and we had a blast. She wanted something more "artsy" and non-traditional. Well, I just got her order in today and she ordered all traditional (aka boring) images. This alone kinda upsets me b/c there are some images in that shoot that I just love, but they're the client so that's fine. But here's image that she ordered a 16x20 of:

It's literally going to be larger than life. I usually have clients over to my house/studio (my house is my studio) and kinda guide them as to which images look best at what sizes and everything, but this bride is OOT (Houston) so she was doing it all online. The order came in from her mom (who is who I usually talk to more often since the bride is very busy with work). Anyway, WWYD? I know I need to call the mom and/or bride and at least let them know that this might not be the best choice to blow up to a 16x20, but how do I say that? Should I recommend another image? Should I recommend one of the other ones they are already printing? Or another? It's not that the quality isn't there, but the face will literally be about 15-16" tall and every little wrinkle, etc, would show. I can tweak that to an extent, but it just wouldn't work right.

Also, is there a way to politely ask why they didn't pick certain images? They didn't pick any of the ones that I posted on here and I was surprised by that and I'm just kinda curious to know why.

Any advice??

Thanks!
EK

THe image will be fine 16x20 as long as they have it on the right wall. If that is what they want then give it to them.

As far as asking them about thier choices.....just ask. You were really excited about the artsy stuff and then you didn't seem to like them. Why?

Sounds like Mom is pretty involved here....so it could be her influence with going for the tradtional photos. I would just casually ask about the ones you were excited about, under the guise of "what could I have done better on these".

i would ask if she is sure that is what she would like.. then order what she wants.
you cant take it personal that her likes are different than your own.
to you, your artsy images are your fave, but to the average person.. their style of artsy may be just what you have up there. a deeply saturdated beautiful print that they couldnt replicate. to her, that could be considered fine art.. you know?
and then, use your faves in your portfolio! LOL

I should add that this bride actually fired her first photog after their engagements b/c she thought they were too traditional so I was totally intimidated to begin with.

I guess this one could work. It's not that I dislike the image. I just am not a big fan of "larger than life" type prints and I'm concerned they won't be happy when they get it in.

Erin
Some customers are just in love with themselves. You have captured her in this image and she wants to display it "larger than life". When she gets divorced, you can shoot the next couple of weddings...

oh, that is different.. i dont know.
some people dont mind staring at themselves all day long.
i personally wouldnt want a larger than life image of myself.. heck.. i dont even have smaller than life images of myself up. to each their own.. right?
as long as you made the client happy..and stayed true to yourself... you should totally pat yourself on the back!
