Hey Todd, good problem to have indeed! Sounds like a great opportunity, if a daunting task.

When I get print orders, I make my order from Mpix or EZ Prints or what have you and have the prints shipped directly to my customers. I always make it clear that I use a professional lab for all printing, and that their orders will come directly from the lab. Haven't had any problems with this process in seven years.

If you've already had the prints made, the post office has plenty of mailers for purchase, although most likely not at the lowest price. But they are great quality.

Depending upon what you charged for these prints versus your cost + packaging + shipping, you should still turn a profit. If not, perhaps reconsider your pricing, since obviously regardless of size, you likely would have lost some money on the process.

Could you possibly just take the pictures to the head of the group and have them distribute? Not sure what kind of group pic it is, and if these people are accessible that way (such as a church group), but it may save you some money and headaches. Or could you have the members just pick up their copy of the group photo at your office?

Whatever you do, be sure you include any flyers, brochures, personal thank-you letters, and/or business cards you may have with each print. 70 new prospects for family photos, portraiture, etc. can be a nice boost to business.

Best of luck! If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to hear how you resolve your issue, at what cost, and what you charged in the first place. Just always good to see real life numbers at work in this business.

With the new postal rates, tubes may be cheaper to mail. Many of the new rates are also based now on SIZE and weight with substantial increase in cost as the size goes up. You might run a couple of samples by the post office and get some pricing.
