Industry Term for Portrait Shot - 06-04-2007, 11:46 AM

Howdy

I have a shoot coming up this Saturday and was requested to take a series of small child portraits with slightly different poses...then place them together seemlessly, side by side creating a single print. I will likely be using high key lighting.

Is there an industry term for this type of shot? Trying to do my homework and haven't done this particular kind of shot before.

Thanks for your time..

If there are three it may be call a triptych, four or more is a polyptych. Some may refer to it as a multi-image or panel print. Others may call it a photo booth strip.

Any one of those terms should point you in the right direction.

Sometimes they are also called a montage, although that is usually referring to film. It has the same premise of a series of similar shots all grouped together. I've heard it used for photography as well.

Much thanks for your feedback...I've decided to tag this as Storyboard Print...since the intent is to tell a story about the different facets of a child's personality.

In your opinions, how would you position the lights and what colors or types of furniture would work well in high-key...or what should be avoided? The background will be white paper with the camera positioned at head level with the child. Child will be about 8 feet from the back on the white paper. I have two AB400s and I'll likely be shooting with a 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor on my D80. I have small white rocking chair and a small white wicker bench (purchased from Don B.). I will also have access to some very nice dark wood chairs and tables for children. Thoughts?

the shoot will be a portrait session. The product will be a trip pic.
