I have been wondering lately....

Those of you that sell a lot of prints to clients, do you put your logo on that print?

I can see why some would say yes, and some no...

We don't presently put logos on our prints. I would love to just stamp the backsides, but I have prints sent straight from the lab to customers, so I don't get the chance. Might not be worth the extra work anyway.

If I did or do eventually go the logo on the front method, it will be as tiny as I can make it. I think it's really a 50-50 judgment call; do it if you want, don't if not.

If you go back and look at most photos taken from the late 1880's through the 1940's almost all photos taken by a studio or professional photographer has their name either embosed, stamped or the name has been written into the negative or written on the print by hand when wet seldom have I not seen this in older photos. Now photos that were shot for newspapers or magazines were not handled this way since they appeared in their respective employers publications but the idea of putting your studio name onto the front of a picture is nothing new. Now if you handle the prints yourself before the clients get them and you want to be more low key get an embosing stamp that you would use to put your studio name in the bottom corner of the image-most office supply places can order a custom stamp for you or you can stamp the back of the image if you want to go with an ink stamp.

I can not imagine not having at least a small discrete copyright statement in every image I sold even if printed by others. For my fine art prints, I'm signing the print and putting nice large copyright stamp on the back. But I do all my own printing for these...
